Few hours in the studio
About two weeks ago we went to a take some pictures in a studio of east London.
Was a really nice experience, even if time flight very quickly if you don’t have planned all the shooting session before entering the studio
This was mainly my fault, i went there without a precise plan, without an accurate idea of what the pictures should looks like, so i was wasting a lot of time for experimenting lighting solutions and thinking about the background i should use and so on.
So, what i have learned this time is never again enter a photographic studio if you don’t know what you want and you haven’t planned it carefully
Luckily, Mai helped me a lot trying to make me focus more on the final pictures looking than all the others technical details of a studio and so at the end there was something good.
We’ll go back to the studio again, probably next month, next time for sure we’ll have better pictures
I will update this gallery with more pictures taken that day, meanwhile feel free to have a look at the pictures and to leave a comment.

My friend, a professional photographer, advises that you need to be critical when selecting the pictures because after a photo session, you always have lots of them to choose from and it’s necessary to be critical to delete some of them so that you can make progress. She said that to me because I always want to keep all of them, from my point of view, every picture tells a story and is captured at a moment of time. Therefore, since then I’ve always firstly chosen the ones who have kind of the most perfect composition and then secondly made another round to the left to choose the ones with the expression I like to keep but needed some touchups. It’s really hard with ones of people.
I don’t know about others but for me, the pictures I like are the ones that make me feel, at least, something, moved, happy, sad, or whatever. They have spirits. I really admire those who can do that. Because you know what, they take those photos with all their hearts and souls. They feel it, live with the moment and keep it alive forever. If you’ve got a feeling and understanding for what you’re doing, then you’ll get a great picture.
You can train to become a good photographer technically, but not the other way around. The interest in photopraphy is not enough. It’s a motivation to improve your photography skills only.
Thanks for this lovely comment.
We should talk for hours about what you wrote but probably I don’t have enough “experience” now to set up a proper discussion, I rather prefer to listen and learn from who have more skills and experience than me, but for sure will be very interesting to talk about that.
What I’m doing now is training to have good skills, training to master a studio. As you wrote, this will not help me to take good pictures but will help me to take the pictures I want to get.
I mean, there are many pictures in my mind that I would like to take, today I can’t do that because I’m supposed to use a quite complex lighting scheme and I’m not able to. In a near future maybe I’ll have enough experience and skills to do that.
So, when I’ll be able to master all the technical skills, probably, I’ll be able to express myself better.

Oh gosh, I didn’t know that Mai would post my blog in here
However, in the studio, photography is quite different. Lighting is the most important thing. Therefore, technical stuff is important. Models have to perform themselves in front of the camera. It’s true that the photographer should give out a theme for the models to follow, but I still think it’s due to the models if they can stand out in front of the camera or not.
Just one thing I noticed, you looked rather stressed when taking pictures at the zoo last Sunday though
More relaxed, okie?
Hi Linh,
Your comments are always welcome
You are right that the models have to perform themselves in front of the camera after the photographer give out a theme and of course lighting is very important.

The problem is if you, as photographer, don’t have a clear idea of the theme and the lighting you want to use, if you are not sure of what you want, the model will feel uncomfortable and if you waste a lot of time for the lighting setup, your model will start to stress
So, is always a good idea enter the studio with everything planned because even if you can master the lighting, the composition of the photo and the model, you always have to take care of the details.
Details can make a big difference, and it’s not always easy look at them, I really need to work on it more
Just the position of one finger of the hand can make the difference sometimes, so, if you are already busy thinking about the lights and thinking about what the model should wear, you are going to lose all the details.
So, the only thing I can do now is to going on to study photography and try to make the most of experience I can, we’ll se what happen
Yeap, I should relax more
but you know what, I’m quite never happy of the picture I just got (at the zoo) so I’m always try to figure out how to improve it
Btw I told Mai already that I really like some of Mai’s photos in the album but she didn’t post them in her blog. Well done, GG
Thanks
Hi, nice to meet you!
The first thing i would like to say is that your pictures are very nice, and some of them is really great ^^. Now, i’m myself trying to figure out what the word “photography” means, and i have to say, for me, taking photographs is really difficult but on the other hand, so interesting ^^. I really enjoy your picture and sometime, looking at your picture can bring me some new ideas, thank you!^^
And… it’s really great to see my cousin in your pictures. She looks so happy… and once more time, thank you!!! ^^. So… all the best wish to you both and hope to see you soon, Gio (May i call you Gio? ^^)
PS: sorry about my poor English…
Hi! nice to meet you too
For sure you can call me Gio
I think photography can have many different meanings, for me is to be able to express myself, look at something around me and try to reproduce it with my personal taste. Sometimes I’m able to do that and sometimes not, but I don’t give up, the important thing is to try and try (study and study) again till I can archive the result i want.
And for sure it’s important to look at other photographers so to get new inspiration and ideas.
Well, I don’t know if you can get new idea from my pictures, but I’m glad you like my work
I’ll be very glad to have a look at your pictures if you have it on the web, or if you want you can also insert your pictures in a comment here on my blog (but the pictures have to be already on the web), so we can talk about it.
Hi!
What a star… well done, those pictures are very impressive.
Hope that you will show us very soon more wonderful pictures… I can’t wait to see them..
Saluto!
