Catwalk Photography

I was hired by Semon Cashmere for getting pictures at a Fashion Show in a London club where they were showing their new collection.

The catwalk was running in the middle of the busy club dance floor and was quite challenging to get pictures in that conditions, with many people around the models and low lighting, but I have quite a lot of photographic  experience on very low light and busy environment so I managed to get all the shoots I wanted to, I relay on my camera autofocus even in poor light condition, so I was setting it to track the subject movement and it did quite a good job, than I was setting the camera in manual exposure mode and the flash set to TTL, often dialled +1 stop or -1 stop depending on the model outfit.

I’m quite happy with the final result and in this gallery you can find few of the pictures taken during the catwalk .

Misha Portrait Photo Session

Beauty Photography

Few weeks ago I had a photo shoot with Misha, a young and experienced Canadian model living in London. It was easy to work with her as she have more than five years of modelling and attending fashion and television show. She instructed the Make up artist on her final look and asked me to take some “simple” portrait trying to make the make-up show as much as possible. To do this I was using a quite safe lighting scheme, two soft boxes at the front, one key on the left and one fill at the right, an other flash used as back light and another one for the background with the use of a gel for the first part of the session to make it light blue.

She enjoyed the result and I enjoyed to work with her, she is very capable to stand in front of the camera and to take some directions during the session.

In this gallery there are few pictures taken that day.

London Mongolian Christmas Party 2009

MG 1565 London Mongolian Christmas Party 2009

I have been hired as photographer for a catwalk show at The Crescent club in West Kensington  London, i knew the club before but i wasn’t aware that there was the Mongolian Christmas and New Year party that night.

I’m going to publish some of the catwalk pictures in one of the next post but while i was there, waiting for the catwalk, many entrainment shows were going on, from singers to dancers, dancing contest and beauty contest attracted my attention so i started to get some photos of the many shows, and i have to say that i really enjoyed all the acts that night. It was a really funny and colorful party, very nice people and a great atmosphere.

I would like to say that i wasn’t the official photographer of the Event, i was there to get pictures of the Catwalk later on that night, so the pictures i took the rest of the night are just few and  for personal use. I didn’t get pictures of people but only of the shows running during the night.

The picture above, like the picture below

were taken with almost the same camera setting and flash setting, and also this one

MG 1555 London Mongolian Christmas Party 2009

was taken at iso 800, shutter speed at 1/100 and aperture at f/5.6. The  flash was set in  ETTL mode. But for the last two images the flash was dialed at about +1 stop because it was easily fooled by the shining dancer dress. Here, more than the shutter speed, that in a very dark environment like this is not very relevant (unless you don’t use the flash), the very important thing is the flash together with the camera exposure mode, if the camera is set to expose on the whole frame, will make fire the flash at a very high output, burning the main subject, so i did set the camera in central weight mode in order to expose at the most for the dancers. Anyway, different camera system may have different behavior so it’s just the matter to find the right settings for your camera and flash that can give you consistence for all the shoots of the event.

In this Gallery there are more pictures taken that night.

Update:

Added few catwalk images here

Mrs J and Mr H Wedding

MG 0313 Edit Mrs J and Mr H Wedding

Mrs J and Mr H Wedding was a lovely intense and emotional Asian Indian Wedding.

I started to get pictures from the early morning to late afternoon and have enjoyed every minute of it, the colours, the atmosphere, the Bride  and Groom  kindness were very charming.

Indian Wedding are quite challenging, there are different rituals happening in different places at almost the same times so it’s require a very good timing to catch them all but knowing exactly what is going to happen make it easier to catch all the most important moments and emotions; yes, attending the Wedding as photographer require a lot of study and a lot of understanding  of the traditions especially if it is a foreign culture Wedding, I’m very attracted  from those so for me became quite easy learn how the ceremony develop and understand Bride and Groom need and taste, of course many years of experience also help a lot but knowing exactly what the new couple want from the pictures allow me to give them something unique.

In this gallery there are few pictures from that Day.
